Our LANER OF THE WEEK is Chris Kapcia!

Matthew Borchers

Chris, our Laner of the Week is originally from St. Clair Shores, MI! He's an avid movie-watcher and can also make a mean batch of chocolate chip oatmeal cookies! When he's not auditioning, you can usually find Chris in front of his computer, editing photos for clients. That's right, he's a photographer too! He specializes in headshots for actors, artists, executives, as well as throwing in portrait sessions and event photography, too! Chris remains grateful to have the opportunity to live a creative life (in LA for 8 years and NYC for 10) while enjoying the food, wine, and great people the city has to offer! There's more to learn below...!

What do you like about Mustard Lane or just working events in general?

I have worked with ML off and on since around 2011 and have seen the company grow to what it is now! It's always a pleasure working with other Laners, because of who is brought onboard. Events are usually fun to begin with, but combining that with being able to work with others makes it a better experience. Everyone just has a solid work ethic!

When you're not working as a Laner...what are you doing?!

Honestly, I am always focused on putting myself out there to let others know what I do creatively. Learning something new is up there pretty high as well. I'm also a huge study of behavior. People watching has always been fun (not in a creepy way, haha).

Favorite restaurant or food?

Oh, man. This question is a tough one. This city has so much great food from which to choose! To name a few favorite restaurants: PRINT, Malaparte, Little Charli (pizza), and Felice have to make that list.

What is one of your goals for 2023?

Since about February, I've made it a goal of mine to live 100% of my life creatively, which includes creating income strictly from my art. Whether that be acting, or photography, I have come pretty close in achieving this and I'll certainly carry this over into 2024! Another goal is to book a guest-star or co-star on a TV show, or book a role in a higher budget feature film. I achieved booking a role in a film, but with the strikes happening, it's been put on hold for now. Lastly, I have worked very hard to expand my photography business as well.

Name a place you'd love to travel to. And why?!

Italy has always been my #1 choice - because - ITALY. Having the opportunity to experience the food, wine, the people, the pastries, and the overall environment and culture would be very cool. Plus, all of the photos I could take! A close second is Copenhagen. It just seems like the friendliest place on Earth!

What's your favorite way to spend a day off?

I do feel as if I am always doing something for either my business, whether that's editing, culling through photos, learning new techniques...etc. But, a true day off for me probably has some sleeping in, maybe a walk around my neighborhood, a good movie, some homemade popcorn...and another movie!

Do you prefer podcasts or books? Favorite one?

Podcasts for sure. I enjoy Armchair Expert quite a bit!

What's your hidden, Laner talent?!

Hmm, well, I can do a few impressions: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Rocky Balboa, and Herbert from Family Guy.

If you could have your dream job tomorrow, what would it be?

This one is a two-parter... 1) Having a chunky lead role in a military-based period film and getting to work with either Kathryn Bigelow or Clint Eastwood would be fantastic. 2) Or building my photography business to the point of being booked for six months out of the year, making six figures and traveling for the other half of the year.

What's an essential part of your daily, Laner routine?

Waking up is always my #1 haha. Then, coffee, of course. Once I am fully awake, I try and do at least one thing for my business, whether it be for acting and/or photography.

What life lesson did you learn the hard way?

Not everyone in my life will see my generosity as anything, but a way to continue to accept it without reciprocating anything in return. Also, don't throw rocks at cars or I will be grounded. I learned that lesson when I was about 4 or 5 years old haha.

What is your favorite family/friend tradition?

I'd say, getting together with family or friends to blast some music, cook delicious foods, and shake up a couple cocktails around the Holidays is THE BEST.

What's a brand or event that you would love to represent or work as a Laner, should the chance ever arise?

Canon, Aperture, Apple, Under Armour (again), Our Place, Sony, Toyota, and Samsung to name a few.

What inspires you most?

I love seeing someone never give up. No matter how many times they've been knocked to the ground, they still get back up and keep moving forward. I know this sounds like a Rocky Balboa speech, but it's true.
