Valery Ortiz is our Laner of the Week!

M / L
Valery was born in Puerto Rico,  grew up in Orlando, Florida and has lived in Cali for 14 years! She has an older brother named Hector and a 10 year old yorkie named Myli. She loves acting, fitness, writing, family, and pizza! Valery has been with the LA team for a few months. So far her favorite event was the Claws Salon during BeautyCon with Civic Entertainment Group. The Laners worked in the mobile nail salon which offered touch ups to lucky fans. The Laners ran the appointment check in, handed out swag and interacted with customers. Outside the Lane, Valery makes a living acting. She also enjoys spending time with family and friends, doing anything fitness related, and traveling!

What do you love about the Lane?

The fun events, the flexible schedule and the other Laners! Everyone has been super chill and really cool people to work with.

What would the title of your autobiography be?

If I wrote it right now, it’d probably be “Little Did I know...”

What is your go-to coffee order?

Chai Tea Latte with Almond Milk! I know that’s not “coffee” but it’s what I usually order at a coffee shop! Haha!

What is the last book you read or movie your watched?

Tyler Henry the Hollywood Mediums book! It was pretty insightful! I want to meet him one day!

What song best describes you & why?

Dang! Tough one! But since it came out I’d say Marc Anthony’s: “Vivir Mi Vida” has spoken to me (& my family loves it too!) First of all, I love me some Marc Anthony and second, it talks how the tough times come and go but you have to laugh, dance, and live your best life! Wepaaaa!

What’s the most useless talent you have?

I can make my tongue super fat and awkwardly wide. It’s weird and kinda gross looking lol!

Describe the best museum/gig/play/game you’ve ever been to.

Recently I’ve been OBSESSED with the Magic To Do: Musical Improv show at UCB! They are so freakin’ talented! I highly recommend seeing there show if you appreciate improv, music, and just raw talent!

What’s your morning ritual like?

I usually take my time getting out of bed, I read my daily quote calender for the days inspirational message, I do my little face wash/creams etc routine and I always have my breakfast protein shake and give Myli her breakfast!

What accomplishment are you most proud of?

I’m really proud of my career. For anyone with big dreams, you know it’s not always easy. My journey has been exciting, random, busy, super slow, and that’s just with work. Throw in life’s unpredictable hardships on top of chasing the dream and things just get really complicated and discouraging at times. I am proud of myself for never giving up but more than that, I’m beyond THANKFUL for my family and friends who have been with me along this crazy journey! The lows were brighter because of them and my highs have been that much sweeter.

Chocolate or fruity candy?

Fruity for candy but chocolate in my dessert!

Last great vacation you took?

Went to a wedding in Morocco and one in Egypt! It was such an epic trip!

Favorite rainy day activity?

Being indoors watching a movie or writing.

If you could be an Olympic athlete, in what sport would you compete?

I was actually named after Valerie Brisco-Hooks (my mom switched my spelling!) who became the first woman to win the 200 and 400 m at the same Olympics in Los Angeles in 1984 SO I’d try and live up to my namesake and run!

When you’re having a bad day, what do you do to make yourself feel better?

Get in a good workout and call my mom!

What is the best piece of advice you’ve received?

“Lo que es para ti, es para ti” - What’s for you, is for you.

As a child, what did you wish to become when you grew up?

An actress. :)
