PRIDE Through the Years!

Matthew Borchers

In honor of June being Pride Month, we thought we’d share some Pride memories from over the years!

For starters, our Mustard Hearts may bleed yellow, but Mustard Lane has always been made of the whole rainbow.

Having our start in the artistic community of NYC, we’ve always been supportive of our LGBTQ+ friends. As we expanded to other markets nationally (plus Canada!) over the years, we continued to draw from the artistic and creative communities. The charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent found in these pools is a major piece of what makes our Laners so stellar on site, especially for Pride Month! We’re always working internally to make sure we are evolving and inclusive. Most recently, we updated our database to include pronouns so that our Laners can be fully and authentically represented to our clients.

Converse!

One especially fun Pride event was for Converse! The famous shoe brand is committed to supporting movements for positive social change and amplifying youth voices as they spark progress to build the future they believe in. In celebration of Converse’s annual Pride collection, which started in 2014, they created a retail customization experience for NYC Pride!

Laners were there interacting with customers, helping them complete their orders, making sure they got their swag and of course, spreading that Laner joy! The contributions went towards supporting longstanding local and global partners, including, It Gets Better Project, and OUT MetroWest.

NYC Pride Dancers!

We’ve even had Laners in the Manhattan Pride Parade! We were brought on by NYCGO to create simple, moving choreography and provide a group of dancers. They taught the client’s team the moves on site and led them throughout the parade route! It’s a thrilling experience to be in this parade and our Laners had a blast!

Showtime & Human Rights Campaign: Queer to Stay!

The QUEER TO STAY small business preservation initiative launched in 2020 to support and preserve ten LGBTQIA+ businesses impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic with a focus on LGBTQ+ people of color, women and the transgender community. Now, the initiative will support at least twenty-five businesses, targeting those from geographically diverse LGBTQ+ communities. While pandemic needs have subsided, Queer to Stay is needed more than ever to protect these safe spaces for the LGBTQ+ community.

They have taken part in over 155 national Pride festival events spanning coast to coast. At select Pride Festivals, they’ve called on our Laners to educate businesses about QUEER TO STAY, to encourage applications! We’ve had Laners do this in Boulder, Charlotte, Minneapolis, Salt Lake City, NY, LA, and more!

These are just a few “Pride-lights” – June is always a busy month, chock-full of fun, exciting and loving events! We are always happy to lend our Laners to these festivities! We hope you’ve had a joyful Pride Month and found a little bit of love to take forward into the next.
