Our Laner of the Week is Mariana! Why don’t we have her take the mic: “Hi everyone! I’m originally from the most beautiful country in the world, Mexico! Fourteen years ago, I took a leap of faith and moved to NYC knowing absolutely no one, and it ended up being one of the best decisions of my life (including meeting the love of my life here ❤️). No matter where I’ve worked, I have always found myself doing the same things: helping people, organizing everything, and making sure everyone feels welcome and taken care of. I’m naturally social, friendly, and happiest when I’m planning, supporting events, and bringing positive energy to a team. I am currently growing my path in the events world, learning as much as I can, and I feel so grateful to do what I love alongside such an amazing crew at Mustard Lane.”
What an intro! Let’s see what else Mariana has to say…!
What do you like about Mustard Lane or just working events in general?
What I love most about working events – and especially with Mustard Lane – is the energy. Every day is different, every event is a new challenge, and you get to meet so many amazing people along the way. I love being part of a team that comes together quickly, supports each other, and makes things happen behind the scenes. There’s something really special about seeing guests enjoy an experience you helped create.
When you’re not on the Lane…what are you doing?!
When I’m not on the Lane, I’m usually still doing something event-related! I’m always looking for new brand ambassador or event opportunities, networking, and learning as much as I can about the industry. I love gaining experience in different roles and staying busy.
Favorite restaurant or food?
My favorite restaurant in NYC is probably Kiki’s on the LES. Mexican food will always be my favorite, but I also love sushi, Italian, Greek, Thai, Chinese – a little of everything!!
Any fun travel stories?!
After getting married, my husband and I spent time traveling the world together, and it was the adventure of a lifetime. My favorite memories are all the funny, unexpected animal encounters — from being sneezed on by a giraffe in Kenya, to hugging an elephant in Thailand, swimming with turtles in Oman, or being followed by every dog on the street around the world…there was never a dull moment with my animal friends.
It’s 2026! Any goals or things you’re looking forward to this year?
This year I’m focused on getting fit, growing in my events career, learning as much as I can, and finally getting a puppy 🐶
Hibernation or Activation: How do you approach the New Year?
Activation! I love staying busy, setting goals, and starting the year with fresh energy and new opportunities.
What’s your favorite way to spend a day off from the Lane?
When I’m not working, you’ll probably find me cooking for friends, hosting book club nights, exploring new neighborhoods around the city, or planning my next travel adventure. I love staying active, dancing, reading, and meeting new people. I’ve always enjoyed creating little moments that bring people together, which is probably why events feel so natural to me.
Award Season is upon us…any movie/actor/designer etc you’re rooting for?
I am always rooting for Benito aka Bad Bunny!!
What’s your hidden, non-Laner talent?!
I am a very good cook!
If you could have your dream job tomorrow, what would it be?
My dream job would be planning and producing events full-time, in a role where I get to be both behind the scenes organizing the details and on the floor connecting with guests. Something in events, hospitality, or brand experiences where I can create memorable moments for people and work with an amazing team every day.
What’s an essential part of your daily routine?
Talking with my dad in Mexico 🙂
What life lesson did you learn the hard way?
Learning to really take care of myself. I’m such a “yes” person and I love staying busy and helping everyone, but I had to learn that I need to slow down sometimes and take care of my mind and body too. When I feel healthy and balanced, I show up happier and with so much better energy for everything I do.
It’s winter! What do you look forward to this time of year?
…Waiting for summer to come back soon! And hot chocolate.
Favorite kind of soup? (for staying warm, of course!)
Pozole always 🍲❤️
What’s a brand or event that you would love to represent or work for as a Laner, should the chance ever arise?
Music festivals, Knicks games, MSG… or literally anything with dogs. That’s my dream life 😄🐶🎶
How do you stay inspired?
From books, music, new experiences, and from all the people I love.
Any advice for someone wanting to become a Laner and get into the world of events?
Don’t be shy, ask lots of questions, and believe in yourself. Stay observant — details matter!! Be proactive, positive, and ready to jump in. That mindset will take you far in events.
