Our LANER OF THE WEEK is James Jones!

Matthew Borchers

Our Laner of the Week is James Jones! He notes that he’s a “military brat,” so he’s called many-a-place “home” over the years. James joined the Lane in NYC this summer; his experience and skills as an educator and Emcee lend themselves perfectly to the needs of a Mustard Lane gig. Some of his other loves are: working out, gaming, and going out to eat. More to learn about James below…!

What do you like about Mustard Lane or just working events in general?

It gives me an opportunity to do something different, in a different place, often with different people every time I do it. It’s exciting to put my skills to the test in new environments with new people.

When you’re not on the Lane…what are you doing?!

During the week, I’m a traveling educator and audiobook narrator. On the weekends I’m a Bar/Bat Mitzvah emcee. For fun, I hit the gym, play games, practice Krav Maga, and make content.

Favorite restaurant or food?

Ramen is my go-to comfort food. Ramen by Ra in the East Village is my favorite spot.

Something you’re excited about for the remaining half of 2026?

Looking forward to the next event season starting up!

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go, and why?!

Japan. Their culture is behind a lot of things that I love and that shaped me. Gotta see it up close!

What’s your favorite way to spend a day off from the Lane?

Non-verbal, at home, video games or a Crunchyroll binge, ordering delivery.

Favorite movie you’ve seen recently?

“You, Me and Tuscany”

If you could have your dream job tomorrow, what would it be?

I would love to write and perform in my own acappella show.

What’s an essential part of your daily Laner routine?

Gotta hit the gym.

What life lesson did you learn the hard way?

Always do your best and stay curious. Some of my best professional opportunities and experiences came from simply working hard, being curious about others, and having good manners. In addition to the friends I’ve made, I genuinely believe those traits got me in rooms that talent and resources could not.

What’s a brand or event that you would love to represent or work as a Laner, should the chance ever arise?

Would love to do something for BET!

Who inspires you most?

My parents. 🙂

Speaking of educators…did you meet our friend Barb, who brings her FIT students to Mustard Lane?!
