Broghanne, our Laner of the Week, grew up in the North East of Scotland! She moved to NYC in 2012 to attend acting school and fell in love with the city. And she’s been here ever since! You’ll find Broghanne working as an actor, both in film and voiceover. She’s currently working on some really cool projects! We’ll have to keep reading to learn more…
What do you like about Mustard Lane or just working events in general?
The people. The BA’s and Team Leads that work on the Lane are some of the most supportive and incredible people I have met. The energy that everyone brings and the joy I feel when I get the message saying who I’ll be working with..you just know the event will be great vibes. Truly, even on the hardest or most chaotic or long days, these people make my day.
When you’re not on the Lane…what are you doing?!
I’m an actor! I work in film and voiceover mostly, which I love. I always joke that when I am working VO I get to be Scottish and when I do film I’m almost always American. It is such a fun skill to develop, constantly switching accents. I also produce when a project comes along that I believe in. I am also a giant book nerd. I have a goal to read a book from every country in the world. So far, I have read 14…so if anyone has any recommendations, please let me know!
Favorite restaurant or food?
This is always as hard question but I LOVE Mexican food. I got to go to Mexico this last year and the best part for me was all the incredible food; I would fly back specifically to go to a restaurant or two that I got the chance to eat at. (I used to work in the restaurant and bar industry as a survival job before ML and so I have had the incredible opportunity to eat at some of NYC’s most wonderful restaurants.) My favourite NYC restaurant though is Bonafini in Prospect Lefferts Garden, it’s a delicious Italian spot that I can’t stay away from – either for brunch or dinner, it is always a fave. Others I love are Sagaponack in Chelsea and Cafe Flor or Outro for coffee shops.
What is one of your goals for 2025?
There are so many. I usually make a list of 100 things I want to do in the year and see how many I mark off at the end. Some are things like, “Go to 12 museums,” or, “Try a new recipe once a month.” Or! They can also be things like, “Ask for what I want, stand up for what’s right,” or, “Drink more water.”
Name a place you travelled to and loved…any fun stories here?
I loved Mexico and I definitely want to go back but I think my favourite place I got to visit and travel to was Saint Lucia. I loved it. It is such a beautiful island. Honestly, what I love most about traveling is getting to try all the different foods that are local to wherever we are.
What’s your favorite way to spend a day off?
There are two ways I love to spend my days off: one is sitting on my couch, reading a really good book and drinking tea (this is especially true in the NYC winters) and the other is getting to spend time with my friends and loved ones, either doing a game night or out doing something fun.
Any fun concerts or shows you’ve seen recently?
I love going to Company XIV‘s productions. Particularly, I love their Nutcracker Rouge show. The costumes and the acts are incredible. It’s such a fun night.
What’s your hidden talent?!
I can only really confidently make two desserts: Scottish tablet and meringue, both of which are known to be temperamental, but I can honestly say that I am great at them. Other desserts…I just don’t have the patience for the science of the recipes.
If you could have your dream job tomorrow, what would it be?
Booking a series like Killing Eve as Villianelle would be my dream. I love to play antagonistic protagonists. They are the most fun.
What’s an essential part of your daily Laner routine?
Drinking a cup of tea in the morning. I am just not 100% me if I don’t.
What life lesson did you learn the hard way?
There are too many to count but one that sticks out is to trust yourself and stand up for yourself. It’s better to disappoint others than to disappoint yourself.
What is your favorite family/friend tradition?
I love being cosy inside and gathering at friends’ or my home with people.
What’s a brand or event that you would love to represent or work as a Laner should the chance ever arise?
Anything women-owned. I truly believe in the concept of voting with your $$ and so I love to support small businesses, especially ones that are women and minority owned.
What inspires you most?
This is hard because I feel like inspiration comes and goes and it is something that is often really hard to hold onto…and the more you chase it, the farther away it can feel. I think I am stubborn and so once I make a decision to do something, I keep trying different things to get it done until I succeed. Then on days where I am feeling inspired, I truly embrace the feeling and see where to go next.
