Happy Friday!! We're back with another amazing Laner Feature! This week we're highlighting the incredible Brittany Brooke and her new venture, Moonshadow Music LLC! Brittany joined the Lane in 2015 as part of our NYC team. We are lucky to have her on the Lane, Brittany is a constant ray of light!! She now lives in Washington teaching music classes to people of all ages! Read below to hear more about her new venture!!
What made you go in this direction?
The quiet of quarantine in NYC made me realize I'd been exhausted by the grind for a long time, and a deep passion of mine is to help kids and families through this really tough time through music. Kids, parents, seniors, many people are at home and are not receiving music or cultivation of self-care in big ways. I aim to keep my prices super low and my classes bilingual to help provide music for many who may not otherwise get it.
What has been the most exciting part of taking on this new adventure?
Starting my own business has been terrifying but really invigorating. I felt most proud last week when we released my website. Laner Annette Navarro designed it, as well as the logo, and both are stunning! I feel so proud! www.moonshadowmusictogether.com
What is the biggest lesson you've learned throughout this journey?
I'm still balancing how to make money while offering affordable classes and using an online platform that takes a cut. It's brutal. I've also had to tailor my Senior class in ways I didn't expect: time of day and song set list being examples.
What are you most looking forward to?
I love connecting with kids and their families. I really hope I may do this in person in the parks this spring. That would be just awesome. I hope so much to be able to invite in the Spanish-speaking community here in Walla Walla, WA and online.
Do you have any advise to those looking to follow in your footsteps?
Everything I have read on business starting suggests this and it was my experience too: you cannot rush the seed of the project. If you don't have a product that absolutely makes you want to get up in the morning, you've lost before you've begun. Do the journaling and writing to really fine tune what YOU do better than anybody and find a way to market it.
