Meet Jillian! Our talented, creative, and passionate NYC Laner! She hasn’t let Corona slow her down one bit! She’s spending her time enhancing her sign language skills and whipping up new fun recipes! Off the Lane, Jillian is an actor. Last year she wrote a solo show (Synthesia the Musical) that she performed in NYC and at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. She’s currently working on turning that script into a TV series! Outside of quarantine, you can find her performing weekly in a comedy show! As we ALL could use a laugh, you can check out her mini web series, On the Spot in the comfort of your own quarantined home. As if we needed another reason to love her, she is also a mentor with Off the Lane (inspiring the next generation of performers) while tutoring special education students virtually. We LOVE trying to keep up with all the exciting things Jillian is up to and can’t wait to see her back on stage!!
Why do you LOVE working on the Lane?
The people! Laners are truly the best!
Where are you spending your Corona Quarantine time?
Still in NYC – in Queens with Laners Mateo and Kat!
What do you miss most about normal life/ what are you most looking forward to when this is over?
Performing on a real stage with an actual 3D audience!
What is your favorite quarantined activity?
I’ve always been into baking, and this quarantine has given me so much more time to try new recipes! It’s been a fun, floury adventure!
Have you discovered any new hobbies during quarantine?
It’s not exactly new – but I’ve wanted to get better at sign language for a long time. I know the basics, and it really comes in handy with some of my Special Needs students. I’d love to become fluent, so I’ve been working my ASL muscles! (PS thanks for the book, Mateo!)
If you’re supporting any local stores, which ones are your favorites?
I support all the wonderful delivery people!
Who is the last person you spoke to?
My six year old niece called me this morning on Skype to play video games with her!
Positive take aways from having down time?
More time to focus on myself. I’m an ambivert, so the extroverted side of me has been struggling at times, but the introverted side is super chill in this quarantine!
Quarantine tips and tricks for staying sane??
I’ve been working out with The Class every day – it’s a fitness class that focuses on both your physical and mental well being. It’s been keeping my sanity in check for sure!
What is your greatest attribute as a BA?
I’m an improviser, so when I’m working as a brand ambassador, I use those skills to think on my feet & be ready for anything!
