Fishwife/Off the Lane: Crossover Episode

Matthew Borchers

We love bringing communities together and this Fishwife/Off the Lane: Crossover Episode is doing just that! In order for that to make any sense though, you’ll need to understand these casts separately, before the crossover. Fishwife is a high-quality, ethically sourced (and super yummy!) brand that makes tinned fish! Off the Lane – as we hope you know by now! – is Mustard Lane’s nonprofit, providing resources, support and opportunities to the artistic community. But…how does one lead to the other?

Fishwife Pop-Up!

Last year, Fishwife had their first pop-up in NYC, and – you guessed it – Mustard Lane provided some awesome Laners for it! The pop-up was a success and when it was time for their second event this year, we were honored to continue the partnership.

For three days, Fishwife took over Wildair (a top restaurant in NYC) and turned it into a Fishwife pintxo paradise! Guests could snack, sip, and shop the most delightful tinned fish snack bar the Big Apple has ever seen! Each day had different programming and partnerships, in addition to the Wildair menu. And of course, the iconic, whimsical, intricate artwork of the Fishwife brand was on full display!

Laners were there to help manage the line (which was plenty long!), guide folks into the experience, and make sure they knew all about the brand and the pop-up’s offerings.

Off the Lane

Kristal, the CEO of Mustard Lane, ventured into the nonprofit world in 2020! As an artist herself, she wanted to enrich and engage the creative community. And since it’s founding, Off the Lane has been providing resources, opportunities, events, continued education, and the production of new, experimental work. Phew! What a list!

Off The Lane’s Outreach programs are specifically geared towards giving back to the arts community. Their Mentorship Program pairs vetted professionals in the creative arts with motivated juniors and seniors at the university level as well as young professionals 18+ to help transition them from “student” to a thriving professional career.

In the Summer of 2022, OTL launched ColLab: An Experimental Workshop, a new program providing networking opportunities that encourage artists to collaborate on innovative, interdisciplinary pieces.

The BOOST program aims to guide the artistic community towards their goals by providing resources and advice along the way. The objective is to keep them one step ahead!

The School Partnership Program offers collaborative workshop experiences that put students at the center of the creative process. Guided by industry professionals – and shaped by Off The Lane’s commitment to collaboration – each session empowers students to trust their instincts, share their voices, and develop their skills through doing not just observing.

The Crossover

Finally, let’s get to the climax of this Fishwife/Off the Lane: Crossover Episode! This Friday, Off the Lane is hosting a big fundraiser event, To the Moon! There will be themed drinks, bites, and an interactive performance by upcoming artist, Miles Moon! There will also be a silent online and in-person auction, featuring a stellar list of items. And one of them will be a Tinned Fish Sample Box! Fishwife CEO and cofounder, Becca Millstein, was kind enough to donate this jam-packed gift box for Off the Lane’s auction! And believe us, there’s so many yummy Fishwife goodies in this box…you’re gonna want to bid on this one.

We’re so grateful to Becca, everyone at Fishwife, and all of our donors who are helping to make this week’s fundraiser for Off the Lane a success. Come join the fun – and the bidding! – THIS Friday, Nov. 14th! 7p-9:30p at MeauxSpace. Every ticket helps Off The Lane keep doing what they do best: supporting emerging artists as they find their voices, create new work, and build lasting careers in the arts.

To The Moon is our chance to celebrate that mission together and toast to all the bright stars in our creative community. So grab a friend, snag your ticket, and get ready for a night that’s truly out of this world!
