Our Laner of the Week, Mellisa, was born on the beautiful island of Jamaica! She’s a 38-year-old published fashion model with a passion for creative expression, business, and personal empowerment. Mellisa is also the 2025 Miss Global Jamaica title holder! She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and International Business, along with a Postgraduate Diploma in General Management. Her educational background allows her to blend her love for fashion with strong, strategic, business expertise. Melissa enjoys working on projects that inspire confidence, encourage personal growth, and foster meaningful connections. Whether she is modeling, collaborating with brands, or mentoring others, Mellisa is passionate about using her platform to empower and uplift those around her. What do you like about Mustard Lane or just working events in general?
What I like about Mustard Lane is the opportunity to create positive, memorable experiences for people while working with a team in a fast-paced environment. I enjoy work that is interactive and people-focused, and event work gives me the chance to meet new people, adapt to different situations, and contribute to something exciting.
When you’re not on the Lane…what are you up to?!
When I’m not on the Lane, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, exploring new places, and staying active. I also like trying new restaurants, listening to music, and finding opportunities to learn new skills.
Favorite restaurant or food?
Salt Mackerel rundown style or Curry goat and Roti!
Any goals or things you’re looking forward to for the remainder of 2026?
For the second half of 2026, one of my biggest goals is to continue working toward earning my master’s degree in Training and Development.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go, and why?!
Although I’m not restricted from going home(Jamaica) and it will always be my first choice, if I could travel anywhere in the world, I would love to visit Italy. I’ve always been fascinated by its rich history, beautiful architecture, amazing food, and culture. It would be an incredible experience to explore the different cities, learn more about the country’s heritage, and enjoy everything Italy has to offer.
What’s your favorite way to spend a day off?
Chill at home and watch a good TV series.
If you could have your dream job tomorrow – other than Laner of the Week – what would it be?
If I could have my dream job tomorrow, I would be a renowned supermodel and fashion designer. I’ve always been drawn to the creativity, artistry, and confidence that the fashion industry represents.
What’s an essential part of your daily routine?
Starting my day with prayer and listening to praise and worship music.
Anything you’ve learned from being a freelancer on the Lane?
Freelancing and working events have taught me how to interact effectively with people from different cultures and backgrounds. It has strengthened my communication skills, adaptability, and professionalism in fast-paced environments. I’ve learned how to stay composed under pressure, work well in diverse teams, and provide a positive experience for clients and guests regardless of the situation.
It’s SUMMER! Any trips, getaways, fun plans or vacays in the works?!
My birthday is June 29, and it always kicks off my summer! I’ve got a few trips planned to celebrate, including Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Colombia, and Canada.

Beach! (Jamaican water)
Popsicle or Ice Cream?
Ice-cream , “Devon house” ice-cream to be exact.
What’s a brand or event that you would love to represent or work as a Laner, should the chance ever arise?
Brands or events associated with Halle Berry and Rihanna both represent strong, influential women and powerful creative industries that I’d be excited to be part of.
Any advice for someone wanting to get started as a Laner?
Freelance events/gigs is a real learn-fast-show-up-prepared-stay-reliable kind of world. The people who do well aren’t always the most experienced – they’re the most consistent and easy to trust.
Who inspires you most?
My inspiration comes from several Black women, including my mother, Lauretta Nunes, as well as Althea Laing and Halle Berry, who all motivate me in different ways.
