Our LANER OF THE WEEK is Liarra Michelle!

Matthew Borchers

Liarra is our Laner of the week! While she may have moved a lot in her life, the East Coast has always felt the most like home. “There’s something about the culture, the people, and the art here, that no place can rival (for me).” This Laner loves traveling, having visited or worked in 46 countries! She’s a storyteller, who loves acting and reading. (Book recommendations welcome!) While she moved away for a few years, she’s now back in full force and looking forward to being on a stage again! Let’s keep diving into the world of Liarra!

What do you like about Mustard Lane or just working events in general?

I have worked with Mustard Lane – off and on – since 2015. I absolutely love the company…and I adore the people. Truly, those I have met, be it staff, other Laners, or those involved with their nonprofit…each person is a true gem. I feel fortunate to have fun and eclectic experiences with them! That’s why I love events! You’re always doing something different with amazing people!

When you’re not on the Lane…what are you doing?!

Right now? It’s a lot of unpacking. But when I’m not working or doing acting stuff, you’ll usually find me reading, hiking, or hanging out with my amazing husband and/or friends.

Favorite restaurant or food?

I’m vegan, but I love all types of food! I must say that Vegan on the Fly, Beyond Sushi, and Screamer’s Pizza are at the top of the list!

What is one of your goals for 2025?

Make art and hike as much as possible. And maybe learn a new skill. Oh…and I really want to be able to do the splits.

Place and/or travel experience you love? Any fun stories here…?!

My first time going overseas was when I was 21 and I backpacked for about 5 months. It was an amazing experience which led to many friendships and my love for travel. In several countries, I didn’t speak the language, but I quickly learned that if you can find an Irish pub, you’ll find English speakers who can give you local recommendations! My most fun travel story, is that I met my husband while we were both performing on cruise ships.

What’s your favorite way to spend a day off from the Lane?

I love to start my day with a nice cup of tea, or coffee, and to connect with those I care about. There’s always something to do, which I love about this area, but I also love my home and to spend time relaxing. I also cook a lot.

Do you have a favorite concert-going/show experience? Tell us! If not, favorite media you’ve consumed recently? (Theatre, music, TV, film etc!)

The most recent show I’ve seen was Suffs…and it was perfection! It was so beautifully written and performed, and the topics are still relevant today. I think Shaina Taub did a wonderful job, as did all of the cast.

What’s your hidden talent?!

I used to play the spoons in a production I did, and I can pick up languages pretty well.

If you could have your dream job tomorrow, what would it be?

Telling a story that is meaningful and that the audience reflects on long after they leave.

What’s an essential part of your daily non-Laner routine?

I drink loads of water. Seriously. So much.

What life lesson did you learn the hard way?

To be your own advocate. And when it comes to business, have everything in writing and learn how to say no.

Was there a tradition or favorite activity you did for the holidays this year?

I love getting a nice warm cup of apple cider and walking around the holiday markets. We’re not big on gifts, so we spend the day together and then do them last, so the emphasis is on relationships instead of things.

What’s a brand or event that you would love to represent or work should the chance ever arise?

I’ve done a lot of emcee/host work, and I’d love to be a host where I get to ask people about who they are or what they do.

What inspires you most?

Authentic compassion, connection, and inclusivity. Living with love.
